Per Krusell: The Role of Economic Analysis in Combatting Climate Change

Datum: 9 oktober 2019
Tid: 10:00-12:00

Per Krusell, Professor of Economics at Stockholm University.

Abstract

The science is clear: Present global warming is caused by CO2 emissions from human activities. In order to avoid the big problems that follow increased temperature, a dramatic reduction in CO2 emissions is necessary. But how should this be done in a global market economy? In this talk Per Krusell, economist at the Institute for International Economic Studies, Stockholm University, presents how economic analysis can be used to figure out what economic policies have the best chance of success given economic and political realities. Economics offers methods for systematic comparison of the cost efficiency of different plans of action, and while cost efficiency is not a goal in itself, it is our best shot at convincing peoples around the world that climate-change mitigation is worth it.
