The richest 10 percent of the world's population is responsible for 50 percent of total CO2 lifestyle consumption emissions. And according to a 2021 report from Cambridge Sustainability Commissions, University of Sussex, the top 5 percent wealthiest people was responsible for 37 percent of the growth in emissions between 1990 and 2015. Yet it is the poorest 50 percent of the population that will suffer most of the negative consequences of the global warming caused by the emissions. One example is low lying Bangladesh who already suffers extended flooding due to climate change. Säde Hormio, researcher in philosophy at the Institute for Futures Studies recently gave a talk about the moral questions that arise from the unequal distribution between the rich and the poor of both responsibility of emissions, and regarding who will bare most of the burden of these emissions.
