Urban Inequality and Political Recruitment Networks

Taking social-geographical differentiation in the urban landscape into account, this paper provides evidence of segregation-generated differences in political recruitment networks. It is found that activists trying to convince others into participation base their efforts on a rational avoidance of areas marked by high levels of social exclusion—reinforcing urban inequalities regarding the chances for ordinary citizens to be invited to political life.
