Abstract
How do tax law professionals from public authorities and private sector interact in their daily professional practice to defend public and private money? Based on analyses of 120 interviews with tax law professionals in French and Norwegian tax administration, private law firms and tax directions of large companies, as well as of documents that are part of this professional interaction, this paper seeks to shed light on the kind of professional practices that are key in this struggle over money, how they provide authority, and how bargains are won or settlements made. Drawing on perspectives from sociology of legal professionals and legal consciousness theory, theory of practice and economic sociology, this paper will contribute to the understanding of the role of tax lawyers in both public and private sector as money professionals key in the redistribution of as well as the defence of private wealth.
