The dilemma of human enhancement

Would you cut off your legs and replace them with prostheses which can take you places faster? Would you take drugs to enhance your cognitive skills? Perhaps you are already doing that? In the latest episode of Crosstalks, "The dilemma of human enhancement", researchers discuss the practical and ethical boundaries of human enhancement.

Humans have super powers. We can fly, communicate over long distances and see things that are very very tiny. We can also enhance our cognitive abilities, which many of us do on a daily basis drinking coffee. The boundary for what is possible for us to do without artefacts is now quickly moving forward due to new technology that has the power to reshape our bodies and helps us live longer - much longer. But how will this affect us as humans, our culture, the environment, and our security?

Karim Jebari from the Institute for Futures Studies participates in a discussion on human enhancement with Gustav Nilsonne, Mats Nilsson, Zoltan Istvan and Maria Konovalenko, arranged by Crosstalks.

Do you find human enhancement interesting? Then you can also listen to an interview with Karim on his thesis "Human enhancement and technological uncertainty" on Mixcloud.
