New seminar series on the future

This autumn the Institute for Futures Studies is launching a new seminar series. Under the title "The Future of ... " we will investigate a number of key issues that are of great importance for the future development of society. We will take on subjects as democracy, inequality, ideology and more. Each seminar will begin with a longer presentation of an internationally prominent researcher in the field, who will then discuss the subject with Swedish scientists and intellectuals.

– The Institute conducts social scientific research of highest quality which is a prerequisite to engage in serious future studies. Another important mission of ours is to encourage an open and broad discussion about future threats and opportunities in society. Of course we want to maintain a significantly high level of ambition in this area as well, and the seminar series "The Future of ... " is proof of that. We eagerly look forward to the coming year's seminars, says Peter Hedström, director of the Institute for Futures Studies.

Behind the seminar series is a committed group of people consisting of Stefan Svallfors - professor of sociology at the Institute for Futures Studies, Göran Rosenberg - writer and journalist and part of the board of the Institute for Futures Studies, Katinka Hort - analyst at Skatteverket, former State Secretary, and Henrik Berggren - journalist and historian. The first seminar in the series is entitled " The Future of Work " and to this we welcome the American researcher Richard B. Freeman. He will, among other things, talk about the conflict that currently exists between an increasingly collective work on one hand and our need stars and individual rewards on the other. He meets Lena Sommestad and Åke Sandberg in a discussion.
