Jan O. Jonsson is a researcher at the Institute for Futures Studies

Jan O. Jonsson is Professor of Sociology at the Institute for Social Research at Stockholm University, and an Official Fellow of Nuffield College, Oxford University. The Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research (FAS) has decided to fund his large-scale project Children’s living conditions in a changing society: Socioeconomic and ethnic inequality.

The project takes as its point of departure in changes in family structure, economic conditions, educational system, and immigration that children and young people have experienced during the last decades. The project focuses on questions such as the consequences of child poverty; how family change affects children’s situation; the importance of school segregation for the integration of ethnic minorities; and the role of the schools for youth’s psychological wellbeing.
