In contrast to earlier research, historical and contemporary comparisons to Swedish demographical changes show that the age group upon which the population growth is based—either child, adult, maturity, or ageing—entails large differences in effects on economic development. Therefore, the authors argue, population dynamics must still be considered a main driving force behind historical change.
