Peter Hedström leaves the Institute for Futures Studies to start new research center for analytical sociology

Peter Hedström, Director of the Institute for Futures Studies, will leave the Institute in August 2014. Peter will then be Professor of Sociology at Linköping University, where he will build a new research center focusing on analytical sociology at Campus Norrköping.

– The Institute for Futures Studies is an important institution in Sweden and it has been very interesting managing the organization the past few years, says Peter Hedström. I am sure I will continue having close contact with the Institute even after my moving to Linköping University.

Peter Hedström became Director of the Institute for Futures Studies in 2012, taking over the position after Joakim Palme. During his years as Director he has initiated several major research projects on segregation, partly intended to make theoretical and methodological contributions to the development of analytical sociology. These projects will follow Peter to the new research center at Campus Norrköping.

– Peter Hedström has been extraordinarily successful in initiating research projects and obtaining external funding for the research, says Bengt Westerberg, chairman of the board.

– I wish to congratulate Peter to the position at Linköping University, developing the subject of analytical sociology, and Linköping University for a good recruitment. We hope to soon be able to find a successor to Peter at the Institute for Futures Studies.
