Come and listen to philosopher Michael Rosen as he delivers a lecture on the concept of dignity within the exhibition When We See Us. Following the lecture, Liljevalchs’ Director Joanna Sandell Wright will lead a guided tour of the exhibition.
Dignity permeates every aspect of modern society, from the United Nations Human Rights Committee to the way we look at one another when we meet. Yet the concept is far from straightforward. Dignity has meant very different things to different people across different periods of history and in different parts of the world. Philosopher Michael Rosen will explore some of these ideas and ask what they reveal about us.
Michael Rosen is the Senator Joseph S. Clark Professor of Ethics in Politics and Government at Harvard University. His publications include Dignity: Its History and Meaning (2012) and The Shadow of God: Kant, Hegel and the Passage from Heaven to History (2022).
The lecture will be held in English and will last approximately 45 minutes.
Afterwards, Joanna Sandell Wright will lead a tour of the exhibition When We See Us, focusing on the theme of dignity.
Places are limited. Please book your ticket in advance to secure your spot. The ticket also includes admission to the exhibition.
The event is arranged by Liljevachs Art Museum and the Institute for Futures Studies.
