Pathways to Retirement and Retirement Incentives in Sweden

Mårten Palme and Ingemar Svensson 2002

Arbetsrapport 2002 nr. 9

The paper describes retirement behavior in different groups of the Swedish labour force and economic incentives to exit the labour market for them, in order to see to what extent these match up. The results show that considering incentives for pension schemes alone may be misleading as income taxes, housing allowances, and labour market insurance programs also prove to be important in considerations for older workers to stay in the labour force.
